COP Mensah strips IGP Dampare ‘naked’

COP George Alex Mensah, one of the senior police officers captured in leaked audio allegedly plotting to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare has described the IGP, as the ‘worst IGP’ in the history of the service.

COP George Alex Mensah told the Parliament bi-partisan committee on Friday that he has had several opportunities to tell Dr. Akufo Dampare about his leadership shortcomings but he has refused to listen.

“What I said yesterday about the IGP, if I get any other chance, I will say it again. The IGP is not managing the Police Service well and for me, for the 31 years that I have been in the service, he is the worst IGP we’ve ever had”,

On Thursday, COP Mensah told the committee when he appeared before it that the IGP’s leadership style has led to a decline in morale among many police officers.

“Dampare is not managing the Police Service well and the majority of police officers are not happy. You can do your investigations. You can call the police officers underground and they will tell you,” COP Mensah indicated.

The Parliamentary Committee probing the leaked audiotape regarding the IGP has adjourned hearings for an hour and thirty minutes. This break is to give the opportunity to witnesses to compare the transcripts of the leaked audio tape to the tape itself. Lawyer for COP George Alex Mensah made request in the course of the hearings. The Committee Chair granted the request. The hearing is expected to resume after the stipulated period.
