Court orders arrest of CID Boss & DG-Legal
The High Court in Accra has issued bench warrants for the arrest of the Director General (DG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police and the DG of the Legal and Prosecution Unit of the Ghana Police Service. The warrants were issued due to their persistent failure to appear in court to answer alleged contempt charges.
The court’s decision was made in response to an application filed by Sureword Global Outreach, seeking the release of a vehicle with registration number GN 2925-20 that had been impounded by the respondents.
Despite repeated court orders, the respondents did not show up in court, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrants.
During proceedings on Monday, April 15, Counsel for the applicant, Abraham Arthur, filed an application for the committal of the CID boss and the DG of the Legal and Prosecution Unit for contempt.
The court found that the respondents had disregarded its directives, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrants.
The court had specifically instructed the IGP to ensure the appearance of the two respondents in court, but they failed to comply.
The court noted that there was evidence that the orders had been served on the IGP and that previous orders had also been communicated to him.
“This court has shown enough leniency to these public officers, but nobody is above the law. Therefore, bench warrants are issued for their arrest,” stated the court.
