Cyra Pamela Koranteng resigns as Judicial Secretary

In a notable shift within Ghana’s judicial leadership, Her Ladyship Cyra Pamela Koranteng has officially stepped down from her role as Judicial Secretary. Her resignation was accepted by the Judicial Council during its 291st meeting held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

A respected tenure comes to a close

Cyra Pamela Koranteng served with distinction in one of the judiciary’s most pivotal administrative positions. As Judicial Secretary, she played a crucial role in supporting the Chief Justice and coordinating the activities of the Judicial Service. Her departure marks the end of an impactful tenure, characterized by professionalism and dedication to judicial reform and efficiency.

Official confirmation by Judicial Council

The Judicial Council, the governing body of Ghana’s judicial system, formally acknowledged her resignation during a meeting that underscored both appreciation for her service and the need for a seamless transition. Though the reasons for her resignation remain undisclosed, the decision appears to have been handled with mutual respect and decorum.

New acting appointment: Dr. Cyracus Badinye Bapuuroh steps in

Following Koranteng’s departure, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the Acting Chief Justice, moved swiftly to ensure continuity. In a memorandum dated April 24, 2025, he appointed Dr Cyracus Badinye Bapuuroh to serve as Judicial Secretary in an acting capacity.

Dr. Bapuuroh, previously the deputy in the office, is well-acquainted with the inner workings of the Judicial Service. His promotion is seen as a strategic move to maintain stability and uphold the momentum of ongoing reforms.

Immediate assumption of duties

The directive from Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was clear and immediate. “Wherefore you are hereby directed to assume the duties of Judicial Secretary pending decision by the Judicial Council and the eventual appointment of a substantive Judicial Secretary,” the memo stated.

The memorandum also emphasized that all stakeholders—including members of the Judiciary, the Judicial Service of Ghana, and the public—should take note of the leadership change.

As Dr. Bapuuroh begins his new responsibilities, all eyes will be on how he steers the Judicial Secretariat in this transitional phase. His appointment, albeit in an acting role, comes at a time when the judiciary continues to face calls for innovation, transparency, and enhanced service delivery.

Whether he becomes the substantive Judicial Secretary remains to be seen, but his performance in the coming months may prove pivotal.
