Dec. 7 elections: Mahama accuses EC of plot to rig polls
John Mahama, former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of attempting to facilitate election rigging in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mahama insists that this alleged plot will ultimately fail, as Ghanaians are committed to voting for change and safeguarding the integrity of their votes.
The NDC leader claimed that since December 5, the party has reported several incidents involving the improper disclosure of validating stamps by EC officials. Despite these concerns, he says the EC has not issued a clear directive to prevent the release of sensitive information about these stamps before the elections on December 7.
Mahama warned that such exposure could enable those behind fake ballots to duplicate the stamps, thereby compromising the electoral process.
He further highlighted an internal EC memo, dated October 10, 2024, which allegedly outlines plans to facilitate ballot stuffing by leaking the serial numbers of the validating stamps ahead of election day.
Describing this as a deliberate strategy to manipulate the election outcome, Mahama has called on various stakeholders, including the National Peace Council, religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, the international community, and election observers, to intervene and hold the EC accountable for its actions.
