Dec. 7 Elections: Mahama confident in polls predicting victory for NDC

John Dramani Mahama presidential candidate for the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reacted to recent polls indicating his lead in the upcoming general elections.

During a campaign stop in the North East Region on October 2, 2024, Mahama encouraged his supporters to remain alert despite the favourable forecasts. He expressed confidence in the predictions from Fitch Solutions and Global InfoAnalytics but warned against complacency.

Fitch Solutions, a UK-based rating agency, has forecast an NDC victory, while Global InfoAnalytics indicates Mahama has a strong lead over his nearest competitor, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mahama emphasized the credibility of these projections, stating, “All credible opinion polls predict that the NDC will win the elections.” However, he stressed the necessity of protecting every vote and urged his supporters to be vigilant, saying, “We must not be complacent. We must protect every single person’s vote. All of us are going to be polling agents.”

He also accused the NPP of disseminating misleading information through fabricated polls, claiming, “The NPP and the government have started publishing fake opinion polls without proper methodology, where the researchers are untraceable.”

Mahama advised his supporters to disregard these dubious polls, asserting, “Every credible institution—Economist Intelligence Unit, Fitch Solutions, Global InfoAnalytics—shows that the NDC is going to win the elections.”

According to Global InfoAnalytics, Mahama currently leads with 51.1 percent of the vote, giving him a favorable edge over Dr. Bawumia. In contrast, Bawumia’s campaign team has dismissed the Global InfoAnalytics poll, questioning its reliability and downplaying its importance.
