DFMLP congratulates President-Elect John Mahama and NDC for historic victory

In a resounding show of democratic strength, the Democratic Forum of Medical Laboratory Professionals (DFMLP) has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect of Ghana, and Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice President-elect, for their emphatic victory in the December 7, 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The DFMLP, an influential group of medical laboratory professionals both within Ghana and abroad, recognized not just the victory margin, but the historical significance of this election. For the first time in Ghana’s history, the country has elected a female Vice President. Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s election as the Vice President represents a monumental step forward for gender equality in Ghana’s leadership. This marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s political landscape, adding another layer of significance to the NDC’s electoral success.

The DFMLP emphasized the overwhelming confidence Ghanaians have placed in President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This trust, the statement says, is reflective of the people’s belief in the leadership’s ability to tackle the serious challenges confronting the nation. The forum highlighted the fact that the electoral result was not just a win for the NDC, but a response to the increasing hardship and economic strain that Ghanaians have been experiencing.

“This historic electoral victory is a testament to the people’s desire for change, and a direct response to the difficult conditions many Ghanaians are facing,” the DFMLP stated. “It is a democratic uprising that should not be underestimated,” it added.

The DFMLP expressed unwavering support for the incoming administration, placing their trust in President Mahama, Professor Opoku-Agyemang, and the NDC leadership to deliver on their promises. Key promises such as the establishment of a 24-hour economy, free primary healthcare, the creation of the Medical Laboratory Science Council, and the ambitious Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) were highlighted as essential to the country’s growth and recovery. The forum also stressed the importance of addressing infrastructure development, with an emphasis on improving the nation’s healthcare systems, something close to the DFMLP’s professional mandate.

“As medical laboratory professionals, we stand in full support of the incoming government’s commitment to improving public health and the overall welfare of all Ghanaians. The establishment of a Medical Laboratory Science Council and the implementation of the National Apprenticeship Program are key to advancing the healthcare sector and empowering future professionals,” said Dr. Moses Kofi Woli, the Secretary of the DFMLP.

In a final call to action, the DFMLP urged all Ghanaians to remain calm, support the new leadership, and work together for the collective betterment of the nation. The forum also extended its congratulations to all newly-elected Members of Parliament and party executives who contributed to the NDC’s victory, recognizing the hard work and commitment that led to their success.

The DFMLP, affiliated with the NDC Professionals Forum (PROFORUM), remains dedicated to contributing to the intellectual discourse surrounding Ghana’s future, believing that the NDC’s policies and programs offer a clear path to social and economic prosperity for the nation.
