Dome-Kwabenya: Faustina Akurugu defeats Mike Oquaye Jnr

Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, has emerged victorious in the hotly contested election.

The Electoral Officer at the Dome-Kwabenya collation center officially declared her the winner after she defeated incumbent candidate Mike Oquaye Jnr, securing the seat previously held by Sarah Adwoa Safo.

Akurugu garnered 51,634 votes (50%), narrowly edging out Oquaye Jnr, who received 50,477 votes (48.88%).

The election process was marked by tensions and accusations of electoral manipulation between supporters of both parties, each claiming the other was attempting to undermine the democratic process.

Following the announcement, Faustina’s supporters erupted in celebration, with cheers and jubilant chants reverberating throughout the collation center and spilling into the streets. Dome-Kwabenya is the constituency with the highest total number of voters in Ghana.
