Don’t tempt us: there will be no re-collation of parliamentary results – NDC warns EC

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly warned the Electoral Commission (EC) that there will be no re-collation of parliamentary results in constituencies already declared, as suggested by the Commission.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, December 19, Dr. Omane Boamah warned the EC against attempting to undermine the will of the people, following statements made by the Commission earlier in the day.

The warning came after a press briefing held by the EC, during which its chairperson, Jean Mensa, raised concerns over the declaration of parliamentary results in nine constituencies. According to Ms. Mensa, some of these results were declared without the required pink sheets from all polling stations, and some electoral officers had allegedly been coerced into announcing results prematurely. She also declared the results in Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North illegal, as they had been declared in favor of NDC candidates.

In response, Dr. Omane Boamah accused the EC of being influenced by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reduce the NDC’s two-thirds majority in the upcoming 9th Parliament. He called the move undemocratic and emphasized that the NDC would not allow any attempts to tamper with the results.

“The press conference by Jean Mensa is meaningless. She has clearly been instructed by the NPP to dilute the NDC’s two-thirds majority, but she will fail!” he wrote. “She should not push us beyond our limits. We are serious about this!”

Dr. Omane Boamah further stated that the EC must present pink sheets for all constituencies where the results were not declared, confirming that the NDC had won. He also criticized the EC for avoiding an emergency IPAC meeting, which the NDC had called for, to answer pressing questions regarding the situation.

“Instead of agreeing to meet at an emergency IPAC, she has chosen to hide and avoid critical questions,” he added.
