EC interdicts 5 officials over alleged theft of BVDs

Five officials of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) have been suspended pending investigation into the garage alleged theft of multiple Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs). The suspects have been handed over to the police for further examination, as confirmed by Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services at the EC. Dr Quaicoe stressed the importance of involving the police to ensure a thorough probe into the incident. He reiterated the EC’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that those involved in the theft of state assets face appropriate consequences.

According to Dr. Quaicoe, one BVD went missing in North Tongu while being securely packaged in a ballot box intended for transportation. The discovery of the missing BVD prompted immediate police notification. The interdicted officials are currently under investigation, with plans for them to be brought before court in due time.

The EC is resolute in its pursuit of justice and accountability for those responsible for the theft. As the investigation progresses, more information will come to light regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent actions taken by the EC and law enforcement agencies.
