ECG, GRIDCO on warpath over sale of power for industrial use

Electricity Company of Ghana and GRIDCO are on a warpath over decision by ECG to sell power for industrial use.

African Editors is learning that the development is causing conflict between the two energy sector players and if not resolved may escalate to unmanageable proportions.

The conflict comes at the period Ghana is facing unannounced power outages, an energy sector challenge which remains a source of worry to many Ghanaians due devastating impacts to businesses.

Speaking in an interview monitored by African Editors on Tuesday 3 August 2021 in Accra, Executive Director of Institute of Energy Security (IES) Nana Amoasi VII said “the latest conflict between ECG and GRIDCO could be attributed to the huge debt ECG owes GRIDCO”.

The IES Executive Director has urged Energy Commission to immediately take urgent steps to resolve the matter.

“The ECG and GRIDCO serve under Energy Commission, so… it should table over the issue and resolve the matter because power sector conflicts is not a good one”.

Meanwhile, government is set to amend Petroleum Management Act to allow Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to scale up acquisition of oil blocks.

In his immediate reaction to the development, Deputy Minority Leader Dr. James Klutse Avedzi says “If that is what they want, we can allow them”.
