Edward Obeng-Kenzo takes over as Acting CEO of VRA
Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo has officially taken on the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA), succeeding Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa in a brief handover ceremony held today.
Obeng-Kenzo, with 24 years of experience in the power sector, brings extensive knowledge and expertise to his new position. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Deputy CEO in charge of Engineering and Operations, where he provided strategic leadership and guidance across multiple departments within VRA.
A trained mechanical engineer, Obeng-Kenzo holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He is also a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.
Throughout his career at VRA, he has held several key positions, including Director of Thermal Generation, Plant Manager of the Tema Thermal Power Complex (TTPC), Operations Manager at TTPC, and Project Manager for the Tema Thermal 2 Power Project, which saw the installation of a 49.5MW Siemens Emergency Power Plant.
As Acting CEO, Obeng-Kenzo is tasked with driving innovation and improving operational efficiency in key areas such as Hydro Generation, Engineering Services, Environmental & Sustainable Development, Thermal Generation, Strategic Projects, and Renewable Energy. His leadership is crucial in maintaining VRA’s position as a leader in Ghana’s energy sector.
Obeng-Kenzo’s appointment marks a continuation of VRA’s focus on strategic growth, ensuring the organization remains responsive to the evolving energy sector.
