Electricity tariff up by 3.02%, 1.86% for water

Electricity tariffs in Ghana will increase by 3.02% and water tariffs by 1.86% starting October 1, 2024, as announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). This decision is part of the Commission’s regular review process to align tariffs with changes in economic indicators.

The increase is necessary due to factors like currency depreciation, inflation, and rising gas costs, resulting in revenue shortfalls in the electricity and water sectors. The Commission emphasized the need for utilities to maintain financial stability while ensuring consumer protection. PURC will continue to monitor utility operations to enhance service quality and value for customers.
