EPA interdicts workers for fraud and forgery of CEO’s signature

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has taken swift action against two of its employees, Daniel Godsway and George Amoako, who have been interdicted amid serious allegations of fraud, document alteration, impersonation, and forgery of official documents, including the signature of the EPA’s Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse.

Fraudulent acts and forged documents

The two officers are accused of unlawfully reproducing an official document containing a forged signature of Prof. Klutse and altering its content to misdirect individuals seeking EPA licenses. The forged document led proponents to an incorrect location, causing confusion and potentially delaying the processing of their applications.

In the original document, reviewed by African Editors, the EPA had clearly instructed applicants to report to the Head Office at Ministries, Accra, specifically rooms 404 or 405, within 48 hours for further discussions regarding the regularisation of their operations. However, in the forged document, the two officers altered the location, redirecting applicants to “Room B13” at the same Head Office, raising suspicion of their intent to deceive.

EPA’s response and legal implications

A memo signed by Prof. Klutse, which was subsequently leaked, condemned the actions of Godsway and Amoako, describing them as an “egregious misrepresentation of official authority.” The memo characterized their conduct as forgery, abuse of office, and a breach of fiduciary duty. The EPA has made it clear that these actions could constitute violations of the Criminal Code 1960 (Act 29) of Ghana, specifically sections concerning forgery, fraudulent misrepresentation, and the unauthorized use of official documents.

Investigation and ongoing suspicion

Both Daniel Godsway and George Amoako remain interdicted as investigations into their alleged misconduct continue. The EPA has pledged to uphold rigorous protocols to safeguard the integrity and authenticity of its official communications and documentation.

The Authority has also issued a firm statement emphasizing that any unauthorized manipulation or alteration of official documents is a grave violation of both institutional policies and legal statutes. The EPA has made it clear that such actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Commitment to upholding integrity

The EPA has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and accountability in all its operations. The Authority’s actions in response to the fraud and forgery allegations demonstrate a firm stance against any attempt to compromise its credibility and authority. The case is expected to serve as a warning to all employees and stakeholders about the serious consequences of tampering with official documents and the law.
