Ex-IGP, COP Bright Oduro join Mahama’s campaign

Several senior-level ex-police officers have unexpectedly given their endorsement to National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama’s campaign. These officers, including former CID Chief and Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye and former IGP Mohammed Alhassan’s Deputy, COP Rtd Bright Oduro, have joined Mahama’s “Building the Ghana we want” campaign in an effort to defeat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The motivations behind the endorsements remain unclear, but there are indications that these former security chiefs believe that John Mahama has the solutions to address the country’s current economic challenges. Speculation also suggests that Kofi Boakye may be interested in becoming Mahama’s running mate, given their close relationship.

Sources close to the former security chiefs have revealed that numerous retired service chiefs have reached out to John Mahama to offer their support for his bid to win a final term as president. Overall, the unexpected endorsements have added a new dimension to the NDC’s campaign and could potentially impact the upcoming election.
