Ex-US President Jimmy Carter dies at 100

Former US President Jimmy Carter has passed away at the age of 100, his foundation, the Carter Center, confirmed.

Carter, who served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981, became the longest-living US president in history. During his presidency, he faced numerous foreign policy challenges and was defeated by Ronald Reagan in his re-election bid.

In 2023, Carter chose to receive hospice care at home after medical treatment for health issues, including melanoma that had spread to his liver and brain.

The Carter Center announced his death on social media, stating: “Our founder, former US President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia.”

After his presidency, Carter lived longer than any other former president, dedicating much of his life to humanitarian work. His efforts earned him the Nobel Peace Prize.
