Fire engulfs major market in Accra

A devastating fire broke out on Thursday at the Kantamanto Market, a key commercial area in Accra, Ghana’s capital, causing significant damage to property.

Witnesses described desperate attempts by people on-site to combat the flames as they rapidly spread across the market, reportedly destroying over a hundred shops.

Local emergency services confirmed that the fire began early in the morning, leading to the deployment of 13 fire crews to manage the situation.

A spokesperson from the Ghana National Fire Service reported that the fire was eventually brought under control, and investigations are ongoing to determine its cause.

No injuries have been reported so far, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
