More about AUCB

Institutional background

The African University of Communications and Business (AUCB) was originally established in 2002 as the Africa Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC) by Hon. Kojo Yankah. Initially offering only a Diploma in Communication Studies, the institution gained tertiary accreditation in 2004.

Growth and academic expansion

By 2007, AIJC evolved into the African University College of Communications (AUCC) after receiving approval to offer BA degrees. It became the first university college in Africa dedicated to Journalism and Communication Studies. Since 2010, AUCB has expanded its academic offerings to include BSc degrees in Business Administration and postgraduate programs in both communications and business administration.

Recent milestones

In 2024, the university achieved a major milestone by receiving a Presidential Charter. This significant development now allows AUCB to independently confer its own academic degrees and programs.

Research and learning centres

To support academic excellence and research, AUCB has established three key centres:

  • Kwabena Nketia Centre for Africana Studies
  • Ama Ata Aidoo Center for Creative Writing
  • Business and Professional Development Centre

These centres reinforce the university’s commitment to knowledge creation, innovation, and professional growth.
