Fuel prices up by over 7% -Alfred Ogbamey
Former Director of Communications of Ghana Gas Compy says fuel prices has already gone up by a minimum 7% end of yesterday despite government claims of zero-rating the Price Stabilisation and Recovery Levies (PSRL) on petrol, diesel and LPG for two months.
The PSRL is one of six taxes and levies the GPRTU has asked the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration to withdraw or suspend to stabilize the ever increasing prices of fuel and LPG.
Prevailing prices still include new taxes announced in the 2021 budget, effective from May 1, 2021.
They include the Energy Sector Recovery Levy of 20 pesewas per litre of petrol/diesel, 18 pesewas per kg on LPG, borla or Sanitation and Pollution Levy of 10 pesewas per litre of petrol and diesel, COVID-19 Levy of one percent on the supply of goods and services, among others.
Today’s projected increase comes despite calls by the GPRTU for the withdrawals of five taxes, including the special petroleum tax, BOST margin levy, energy sector recovery levy, among others.
“Currently, we are buying a gallon of petrol around GH¢29. If government listens to us and reduces these taxes and levies, a gallon of petrol would go for about GH¢18″, noted National
Communications Officer, Abass Moro in a recent interview with Evans Mensah of PM Express on how a suspension of the five taxes would save the situation.
