Full text: Mahama’s inaugural speech

John Dramani Mahama has officially taken office as the sixth President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, after swearing the oath of allegiance and the presidential oath to begin his new term.

The inauguration ceremony, led by Ghana’s Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, took place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Parliament and the iconic Black Star Square in Accra.

Earlier in the event, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s first female Vice President, was sworn in, marking another historic milestone in the country’s political history.

This marks a significant return for Mahama, who previously served as the fourth President of the Fourth Republic from January 7, 2013, to January 6, 2017.

Remarkably, Mahama is the first President in Ghana’s Fourth Republic to lose an election and later reclaim the presidency, following two election campaigns and a decisive victory.
