GAMLS elects national executives for 2024-2026: A new chapter for the association

At the highly anticipated 2024 GAMLS National and Electoral Congress, the results of the elections for the new national executives were met with much enthusiasm and optimism. Members of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) voted for a new leadership team for a two-year mandate, tasked to steering the affairs of the association in line with its rules and regulations.

In one of the closest and most fiercely contested races, Dr. Eric Kofi Aidoo emerged victorious as the National President of GAMLS, securing 51% of the vote. Dr. Aidoo’s campaign resonated with the membership, who rallied behind his vision for a more dynamic and progressive future for the association. His victory over Torgbi Dr. Dr. Robert Adedze-Kpodo, who garnered 49%, highlights the competitive nature of the election, with both candidates presenting compelling platforms centered on advancing the interests of medical laboratory scientists across Ghana.

Dr. Aidoo’s victory marks a significant moment in the history of GAMLS, as he now steps into the leadership role with a mandate to focus on professional development, policy advocacy, and greater collaboration within the healthcare sector. His leadership promises to build on the association’s achievements while addressing current challenges facing the profession.

Vice President: MLS Samuel Kwabena Appiah leads with 46%

In the race for Vice President, MLS Samuel Kwabena Appiah secured a comfortable win with 46% of the votes. Appiah’s platform focused on enhancing member engagement, improving professional standards, and advocating for better working conditions for medical laboratory scientists. His key opponents, Dr. Courage Seyram Asase, who obtained 36%, and Dr. Francis Kwakye Antwi, who garnered 18%, ran strong campaigns but were unable to overcome Appiah’s broad support base.

With his deep experience in laboratory practice and leadership, Appiah is poised to play a critical role in supporting the new president’s agenda, strengthening the association’s presence both locally and internationally.

General Secretary: Dr. Solomon Dzidzornu Yao Kwashie’s overwhelming win

One of the most resounding victories came in the General Secretary race, where Dr. Solomon Dzidzornu Yao Kwashie claimed an impressive 93% of the vote. Dr. Kwashie’s overwhelming support is a testament to the trust and confidence the GAMLS membership has in his ability to manage the administrative duties of the association effectively. His experience in both clinical and administrative roles positions him well to ensure the smooth functioning of GAMLS’s day-to-day activities, including communication, documentation, and coordination with key stakeholders in the healthcare industry.

Financial Secretary: Dr. (Mrs) Jennifer Adoley Baffoe emerges victorious

In the race for Financial Secretary, Dr. (Mrs) Jennifer Adoley Baffoe won with 60% of the vote, defeating MLS Gameli Emmanuel Adzraku, who garnered 40%. Dr. Baffoe’s victory signals the association’s confidence in her financial acumen and leadership capabilities. With a strong background in financial management, she is expected to bring greater transparency and fiscal responsibility to the association. Her role will be pivotal in ensuring the financial stability of GAMLS, as well as securing funding for various programs and initiatives.
