Ghana Gas deepens media relations with training and soirée in Takoradi

A strategic engagement with the Fourth Estate

In a bid to strengthen its relationship with the media and foster accurate reportage in the energy sector, the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) hosted a comprehensive Media Training and Soirée on Friday, August 22, 2025. Held at The Palms by Eagles in Takoradi, the event brought together representatives from major media houses, key stakeholders, Senior Management of Ghana Gas, and members of its Board of Directors.

Empowering the media through knowledge sharing

The first half of the day was dedicated to an intensive training session tailored specifically for journalists. The goal: to deepen their understanding of the gas sector and enhance transparency in energy reporting. With a technical sector often misrepresented due to limited public knowledge, the training provided vital insights into gas operations, value chains, and the regulatory landscape.

In her keynote address, Ms. Judith Adjobah Blay, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, emphasized the importance of media collaboration in nation-building. She announced that such trainings would become a biannual fixture, alternating between Accra and Takoradi to ensure broader national participation.

“Our sector is complex, but essential to Ghana’s economic growth. We need partners in the media who understand it deeply enough to inform the public accurately and constructively,” Ms. Blay stated.

An evening of appreciation and camaraderie

As the sun set, the event transitioned into an elegant soirée that served as both a networking opportunity and a gesture of appreciation for the media’s role in promoting transparency. The gathering was graced by Ghana Gas’ Deputy CEO, Mr. Rene Nelson, who lauded the media for its growing interest in energy reporting and encouraged continued collaboration.

A goodwill message from the Western Regional President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) highlighted the importance of sustained engagement between corporate institutions and the press, commending Ghana Gas for setting the standard.

Reaffirming commitment to media partnerships

The evening closed with heartfelt remarks from Mr. Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, Head of Corporate Affairs at Ghana Gas. He expressed gratitude to all attendees and reaffirmed the company’s dedication to open communication and mutual growth.

“We believe in partnerships that go beyond press releases. Our doors are open for inquiries, collaboration, and continuous dialogue. Together, we can tell the Ghana Gas story in ways that empower our people,” Mr. Kirk-Mensah said.

With its commitment to biannual trainings and ongoing media collaboration, Ghana Gas is setting a new benchmark for public-private engagement in Ghana’s energy sector. The Takoradi event not only enhanced knowledge but also strengthened bonds between the company and the media — a move poised to benefit both the industry and the public it serves.
