Ghana Gas pipelines remain safe from illegal miners –Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah

Security around gas infrastructure intensified

The Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, has assured the public that the company’s pipelines and installations are fully secure from the damaging impact of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. Speaking in an interview on Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, Mr. Kirk-Mensah emphasized that robust security measures have been put in place to protect critical gas infrastructure.

“The pipelines of Ghana Gas remain safe from the activities of illegal mining. Security around the infrastructure has been intensified to ensure that anyone who attempts to interfere with or go near the pipelines will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.

Atuabo shutdown won’t affect gas supply

Addressing public concerns about recent operational developments, Mr. Kirk-Mensah clarified that the temporary shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant for maintenance will not lead to power outages or gas shortages.

“The temporary shutdown and maintenance works at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant will not result in dumsor or any shortage of gas supply in the country,” he assured.

Criticism of previous government’s performance

During the interview, Mr. Kirk-Mensah also took aim at the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, accusing them of failing to expand the operations of Ghana Gas during their eight-year tenure.

“The NPP failed to expand the activities of the Ghana National Gas Company during their eight years in power. However, President John Dramani Mahama has assured that his government will soon commence the second phase of the project,” he stated.

New management committed to core mandate

Commenting on the company’s current direction, Mr. Kirk-Mensah highlighted that the new leadership at Ghana Gas is focused on restoring the company to its original purpose.

“The new management of the Ghana Gas Company is refocusing on the core mandate of the company, which has been deviated from over the years,” he said.

Call for public support

Mr. Kirk-Mensah concluded by stressing the importance of Ghana Gas as a national strategic asset. He urged the public to support efforts to safeguard its infrastructure to ensure a stable energy supply and contribute to the nation’s development.
