Ghana’s Afua Asantewaa surpasses Guinness World Record for longest singing marathon
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a Ghanaian woman, has shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon, surpassing the previous record set by India’s Sunil Waghmare. Dubbed the “afuaasantewaasingathon,” her musical journey began at the stroke of midnight on December 24, 2023, and lasted for an impressive five days and a few hours, during which she sang in various positions like standing, lying down, sitting, and squatting. Undeterred by the physical challenges, Afua concluded her marathon on the midnight of Friday, December 29th, 2023, having sung continuously for an astounding 126 hours.
Afua’s achievement surpasses the official record held by Sunil Waghmare, a renowned Indian singer, who had held the title for singing for 105 hours. Unofficially, she sang for a remarkable 126 hours and 52 minutes, outlasting Waghmare’s mark by an additional 21 hours. Unlike Sunil, who began his musical journey at 14 and became famous in 2012 as the Guinness World Record holder, Afua is not a professional musician. However, her passion for music propelled her to this extraordinary accomplishment.
With Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s remarkable feat, the music world witnesses a new milestone, demonstrating the unyielding spirit of individuals driven to push the boundaries of artistic achievement.
