GOIL Company Limited has suspended its membership from the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) due to some misunderstanding that ensued since the company reduced its fuel price by 15 pesewas at the pump based on government directives last Monday.
According to GOIL, the AOMCs has shown gross disrespect and treated the company with contempt and public ridicule and therefore, have decided to suspend its membership from the association with immediate effect.
We recalled the Government held a crunch meeting at the Jubilee House with the Transport Unions last Monday when they embarked on sit-down strike to announce their displeasure on the fuel price hike and government’s refusal to reduce the price, later, it was announced that government has directed Goil to reduce its fuel price the next day, Tuesday.
But, Goil has denied such allegations circulating in the public that they were directed by government to reduce its price, the company said, its pricing policy takes into consideration the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaians and other factors.
In a statement issued and signed by the Group CEO and Managing Director of Goil, Kwame Osei-Prempeh stated that profit is not the company’s prime motive but also take into cognisance the corporate responsibility its own citizens and acted accordingly to reduce the burden of the ordinary Ghanaian.
According to the statement, Goil is challenging the AOMCs to provide prove of the allegation that government truly directed them to reduce the fuel.
“Goil finds it strange and unacceptable that the Chairman of AOMCs did not find it fit to seek Goil’s position before coming out with the well-circulated statement even when the association had earlier advertised for Board meeting to discuss such issues”, the statement said.
