Govt declares March 31 and April 1 as holidays

Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr
The Ministry of the Interior has officially declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, aspublic holidays in observance of the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, falls on Sunday, March 30, 2025. As this is a statutory public holiday, it is recognized in Ghana’s official calendar.

Extra Public Holiday announcement
Earlier, President John Dramani Mahama had announced the addition of an extra public holiday to honour the Muslim celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. This decision aims to facilitate proper observance of the festival.

Executive Instrument issuance
In a statement signed by Internal Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak on Saturday, March 22, the Ministry explained that the President has issued an Executive Instrument (E.I.) under Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601) to declare the following Monday and Tuesday as additional holidays.

Acknowledgment of the Muslim Community
This move not only fulfills a campaign promise by President Mahama but also acknowledges the significant contributions of the Muslim community to Ghana’s national development.
