GSAA mourns helicopter crash victims, calls for compassion and respect

The Ghana Sociological and Anthropological Association (GSAA) has expressed its deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the victims of the recent helicopter crash that has shaken the nation.

In a communiqué issued and signed by Professor William Boateng, GSAA National Convenor, at the close of its 9th Annual Conference at the University of Ghana, Legon, on August 8, 2025, the association said it stood in “unwavering solidarity” with all those affected, noting that the loss had resonated beyond Ghana’s borders.

“Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and all those who have been emotionally, psychologically, or otherwise impacted by this tragedy,” the statement read.

The GSAA acknowledged that official investigations into the crash had commenced and urged the public to be patient and support the relevant authorities to ensure a thorough, independent, and transparent inquiry.

As part of its call for responsible conduct, the association appealed to citizens to refrain from circulating graphic images or videos of the victims, stressing the need to uphold the sanctity of life and the dignity of the deceased.

“In line with our values as Sociologists, Anthropologists, and Social Workers, we urge the public to promote a culture of compassion, respect, and ethical conduct in the face of grief,” the communiqué stated.

The GSAA reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to national healing, promoting responsible citizenship, and engaging in scholarly reflections on matters of public concern.
