Guinea’s military junta dissolves govt

The ruling National Council of the Rally for Development (CRND) in Guinea has dissolved the interim government in the West African nation, as announced in a decree read on state television by the presidency’s secretary-general surrounded by military officials and armed soldiers.

According to the decree, directors of cabinet, secretary generals, and their deputies will temporarily lead until a new government is formed. No timeline was provided for the appointment of a new administration. Chief of staff of the armed forces, Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, stated in a communiqué dated Monday that members of the dissolved government must return their vehicles and passports promptly, with their bodyguards being released from duty and their bank accounts frozen.

Guinea’s Military Government has dissolved the cabinet, and ordered Ministers to surrender their passports and official cars. The assets of the Ministers have been frozen. The borders have been closed.

The military junta led by General Mamadi Doumbouya has been in power since seizing control in September 2021.
