High Court lifts injunction on Amenfi Central NDC Candidate Joana Cudjoe
A High Court in Sekondi has lifted the injunction that had previously prevented Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, from participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The court’s ruling follows a request from the NDC to lift the injunction and dismiss the underlying disqualification. This decision comes after a previous case in which an Accra High Court had rejected the NDC’s attempt to stop the Electoral Commission (EC) from printing ballots and the notice of poll, as part of efforts to challenge Cudjoe’s eligibility.
With the injunction now lifted, the EC is free to proceed with printing ballots and other electoral materials, including the name of Joana Cudjoe.
Following the ruling, Edudzi Tamakloe, the lawyer for the first defendant, urged the EC to act in accordance with the court’s directive. “We are very pleased and thank the court for its decision. The EC representative was present and is now fully aware that the injunction has been lifted. We expect Madam Jean Mensa to do the right thing,” Tamakloe stated.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe, speaking after the court session, expressed her relief and gratitude. “I’m incredibly grateful. I thank God and the party for their support. Now, it’s time to focus on our campaign. I’m coming home, and we will work hard for victory on December 7,” she said, urging her supporters to redouble their efforts.
