IGP leaked tape: COP Mensah, 2 others cited for professional misconduct

The Parliamentary Committee led by Samuel Atta Akyea has recommended sanctions for three senior police officers involved in a leaked tape scandal. COP Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare, and Supt. Emmanuel Eric Gyedi were found to have misconducted themselves, a major offense under Police regulations. The Committee has suggested that these officers be disciplined according to the Police disciplinary procedure.

The Committee has also urged the House to inform the President of its findings in accordance with Section 19 of the Police Service Act, 1970 (Act 350) to ensure appropriate sanctions are imposed. The three officers were found to have engaged in activities outside their official duties, breaching regulations that prohibit involvement in political controversy or taking improper advantage of their positions in the Police Service. This misconduct was evident in their plotting of the removal of the Inspector-General of Police on a leaked tape alongside the former Northern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Daniel Bugri Naabu.
