Im no fool to build Komenda Sugar Factory without raw materials’- Mahama

EX-President John Dramani Mahama is mounting a strong defence for projects he undertook during his government and says he ‘ is not foolish to build Komenda Sugar Factory without raw materials for take-off’.

According to him, his administration had plans of setting up a sugarcane farm around the Komenda sugar plant to give the unrefined components to creation however that piece of the task has been overlooked by the Akufo-Addo government upon assumption in 2017.

He told Cape 93.3FM in an interview within Central Region during his Thank You visit on Friday, 15 October 2021 that his vision for setting up the industrial facility was to eliminate the nearly $300 million spent yearly to bring sugar into Ghana.

“Stage I of the venture was to assemble the industrial facility and with stage II, the government of India gave us one more $24 million for sugar development and the out-producers”, Mr Mahama disclosed to Ohene Kwame David.

“At the point when this administration came, they said the sugar manufacturing plant wasn’t their need and, thus, they didn’t make a difference for the $24 million and, along these lines, they left it and the production line is simply staying there”, he lamented.

As indicated by Ex-Ghanaian Leader, the second period of the task was intended to give the natural substance to the processing plant to make it self-maintaining.

“Do you believe I’m a numb-skull to put up a manufacturing plant and not make arrangements for raw materials? I’m not excessively stupid. I concluded financial matters in the 6th structure”, Mahama called attention to.

“In this way, I knew what the vision was: get the industrial facility first and, thus, when we begin delivering, we’ll have a handling plant”.

“In this way, it was one of our need projects”, he added.

He said: “There’s around 3,000 sections of land of land at Komenda, along these lines, we arranged doing a core ranch to take care of the manufacturing plant with raw materials and utilize a total leftover of the $24 million to purchase sugar from the out-cultivators nearby.”

“We’ll give them the establishing materials on the grounds that our sugar stick assortment is exceptionally flimsy contrasted with the very think half and half assortment which has a ton of sugar in it”, he noted.

“Along these lines, the production line would purchase the sugar stick from the out-cultivators”, he said.

“This administration disregarded the subsequent part”, he said, underlining that “the Komenda Sugar Factory project has two sections: the plant and the sugar cane developing yet they overlooked the subsequent part, that is the reason the manufacturing plant is staying there inactive and presently they need to privatize it”

“In any case, regardless of whether you privatize it, you actually need the help of the ranchers to develop the sugar cane”.

“In the event that we return into government, by the finesse of God, and they have not sold the manufacturing plant at this point, a production line can attempt to create an excellent level of Ghana’s sugar necessity and furnish the youth nearby with occupations”, Mr Mahama said.

EX-President Mahama is expected to wrap up his Tank You Tour at Volta and Oti Region on the 18th and 19th of October 2021 respectively.
