Ivorian Prez Ouattara hints at 4th term bid

Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has hinted at the possibility of running for a fourth term, although his party has yet to make a formal decision regarding the 2025 election.

On Thursday, January 8, during a speech to diplomats in Abidjan, Ouattara, 83, said, “I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country,” marking his most direct indication of a potential candidacy.

The president, who controversially secured a third term in 2020, has previously expressed intentions to retire, but suggested his decision could depend on whether his longtime political opponents also step down.

In September, Ouattara’s party showed support for another run, but no official announcement has been made. The presidential election is set for October.
