J4G applauds Mahama for scrapping E-Levy, burdensome taxes
A bold step toward economic justice
On April 3, 2025, JUSTICE FOR GHANA (J4G) publicly lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his decisive and courageous move to abolish the E-Levy and other excessive taxes that had placed an unbearable financial strain on the Ghanaian people. This historic decision marks a critical moment in Ghana’s political and economic landscape, reaffirming President Mahama’s commitment to the welfare of ordinary citizens and his promise to deliver economic fairness.
J4G’s longstanding advocacy against the E-Levy
For years, JUSTICE FOR GHANA (J4G) has been at the forefront of the battle against the E-Levy, a tax widely seen as exploitative and harmful to the economic well-being of the Ghanaian population. The movement began with a passionate demonstration on December 2, 2021, when thousands of Ghanaians marched to Parliament, demanding the immediate repeal of this controversial tax. The momentum built rapidly, culminating in an eight-day picket at Parliament, where protesters continued their fight for the withdrawal of the E-Levy, amplifying the voices of the many citizens who found the tax burdensome and unfair.
Mahama’s swift action and leadership
President Mahama’s decision to eliminate the E-Levy, along with other regressive taxes, is seen by J4G as a clear testament to his responsiveness to the needs of the people. In signing the bills to repeal these taxes, Mahama has not only honored his campaign promises but also reaffirmed his commitment to economic justice and responsible governance. His prompt action is a powerful example of leadership that listens to and addresses the concerns of the citizenry.
A contrast to the previous administration
The decision to abolish the E-Levy and other taxes is also a stark contrast to the policies of the previous administration under President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia. While the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government imposed heavy tax burdens on Ghanaians, it failed to deliver on its promises of economic relief and prosperity. In contrast, Mahama’s action highlights a different approach—one that prioritizes the well-being of the people over unbridled fiscal policies.
Celebrating leadership
that cares for the people
In recognition of President Mahama’s leadership and the monumental impact of this decision, JUSTICE FOR GHANA (J4G) is organizing a public procession to express gratitude and appreciation for his dedication to the people. This public display of support aims to honor a leader who has not only kept his promises but has also demonstrated a deep understanding of the struggles faced by ordinary Ghanaians.
The call for continued advocacy
As the country moves forward, J4G encourages all Ghanaians to stand united in celebrating this milestone while continuing to advocate for policies that promote economic relief, social justice, and national development. This action serves as a powerful reminder that political leaders can indeed be true to their word and prioritize the interests of the people.
