Julie Essiam is new GRA Boss

61-year-old Julie Essiam has been appointed as the new Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, replacing the 62-year-old Rev. Dr. Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah. Prior to her new role, Essiam served as the Head of Support Services Department at GRA.

There are reports that Board Chairman Dr. Oteng Gyasi has decided to resign due to his opposition to Essiam’s appointment, as she is believed to be favored by former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. GRA staff are also reportedly not in favor of Essiam’s management and leadership style, and may protest against her appointment.

It is worth noting that the former GRA boss faced criticism for staying in office past the retirement age without a contract, and more recently, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia publicly addressed the issue of the GRA targeting corporate tax defaulters.
