KATH doctors strike over eviction
The doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti region are going on strike starting tomorrow, 13 March 2024, due to accommodation issues. Approximately 20 doctors and other health workers are at risk of being evicted from the bungalows they currently occupy in Danyame, which is located near the hospital.
The doctors received an eviction notice from a private developer, giving them one week to vacate the residential apartments. In response, the doctors held an emergency meeting today and decided to go on strike in order to find alternative accommodation.
Dr. Michael Leat, Chairman of the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA), stated that they will only return to work once they have secured housing. During the strike, they will only attend to patients currently admitted, with no new cases being accepted.
