Keli Gadzekpo resigns as ECG Board Chair

Mr Keli Gadzekpo, the Chair of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Board, has resigned, effective 9 April 2024, due to personal reasons as stated in his letter to President Akufo-Addo. In his resignation, Mr Gadzekpo expressed his best wishes for the state power distributor and the government in their efforts to provide stable electricity in light of the country’s energy sector crisis.

Appointed to the board in 2017 by then-Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, Mr Gadzekpo’s departure comes at a time of worsening power crisis, prompting demands for a load-shedding timetable from the minority caucus in parliament and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission.

Regarding the demand for a load-shedding timetable, Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh recently stated that those calling for it have ill intentions for Ghana and challenged them to produce one themselves. At an event in the Ashanti Region, he emphasized that the Electricity Company of Ghana has not announced any timetable and questioned the motives behind pushing for one without proper planning.
