Kenya’s ‘4 commissioners’ wanted results rigged for re-run – IEBC Chair

Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission says the the constitutionally mandated Electoral body, unwaveringly stands by the presidential election results it declared that made Deputy President Dr. William Ruto the fifth President-Elect of East African powerhouse, accusing his top four commissioners who opposed the polls outcome of inordinate agenda to alter the results in favour of opposition figure Raila Odinga.

According to Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chair Wafula Chebukati, the four Commissioners refused to be part of the declaration because of his total refusal to kowtow to their intense pressure to change the presidential to reflect that no candidates won to pave ways for run-off at the expense of William Ruto’s victory.

The IEBC in a statement issued today, the Chairman of the IEBC insists by law, he doesn’t need to consult his deputies before announcing the true results of how Kenyans voted.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has described the announcement of William Ruto the President-Elect as ‘parody’, null and void, and deliberate attempt by the Electoral Commission Chair to display exaggeration for comic effects.

4 Kenyan election officials disown presidential results

The planned announcement of the Kenyan presidential election results descended into chaotic scenes on Monday after the deputy chairperson of the election commission and three other commissioners disowned the presidential election results.

“We are not able to take ownership of the results that will be announced,” Juliana Cherera, the deputy chairperson of the electoral commission told a media briefing at a different venue from where the announcement was to be made.

Diplomats and international elections were whisked out of the tallying hall where the chairman of the electoral commission was preparing to announce the presidential results.

Deputy President William Ruto appeared to be leading a tight presidential race against opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday as Kenyans awaited final results of the election held nearly a week ago.

Kenya has a history of post-poll violence and slow progress by the electoral commission in tallying Tuesday’s vote has fed fears the election will be disputed, leading to bloody scenes like those that followed presidential polls in 2007 and 2017.
