The Kumasi Traditional Council has cleared Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of alleged derogatory remarks made about the Asantehene during the NPP parliamentary vetting process.
Chairman Wontumi, as he is commonly known, denied all accusations made by Nana Kwaku Duah, the Kokosuhene.
Accompanied by party executives and government officials, including Majority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, National Chairman Stephen Ntim, and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, Chairman Wontumi appeared before the Council.
Chairman Wontumi asserted that the allegations were untrue and malicious, and did not accurately reflect what took place during the vetting process.
Despite Nana Kwaku Duah’s defense of his accusations against Wontumi, the Kumasi Traditional Council dismissed the claims and urged both parties to resolve their issues without involving the Asantehene.
In delivering judgment, Bantamhene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI reminded chiefs to abstain from engaging in political activities while campaigning for the upcoming 2024 general elections. He declared that the NPP Regional Chairman should be released without any charges.
Meanwhile, the Kumasi Traditional Council called for calm as they prepare to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Asantehene.
