Lamborghini saga: EOCO detains Shatta Wale
Dancehall star at the centre of international luxury car probe

Dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr., widely known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with a high-profile investigation involving a yellow Lamborghini Urus. The case centres around the tax status and possible criminal origins of the luxury vehicle.

In a statement released by his management, it was confirmed that Shatta Wale voluntarily presented himself at the EOCO offices on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. He was accompanied by his legal representative, Cephas Biyuo.

Legal team asks for calm Alamid investigation

Shatta Wale’s management team has appealed for calm among his massive fan base, popularly referred to as the “SM Family.” The statement emphasized that the legal team is actively cooperating with the authorities to resolve the matter and ensure the artist’s swift release. They also indicated that discussions with EOCO will continue in the coming days.

The Lamborghini seizure: Fraud links and international cooperation

This latest development follows the earlier seizure of Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini Urus in early August 2025. The EOCO, in collaboration with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), confiscated the vehicle amid allegations that it was stolen and linked to an international fraud scheme.

The seizure was made under the authority of Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804) and the Mutual Legal Assistance Act, 2010 (Act 807), which enable EOCO to act on serious cross-border economic crimes in partnership with foreign agencies.

EOCO’s mandate: Fighting crime across borders

EOCO is a specialised law enforcement agency tasked with investigating and prosecuting complex economic crimes. Their mandate includes seizing property suspected to be connected to criminal enterprises, even if the crimes occurred outside Ghana. The agency frequently works alongside international bodies such as INTERPOL and the FBI to pursue justice across jurisdictions.

Public reaction

The detention of such a high-profile figure has sparked intense debate and speculation across social media. Fans, media personalities, and legal experts have all weighed in, with some voicing support for Shatta Wale while others call for transparency in the investigation. Many await clarity on whether the artist knowingly acquired the vehicle under suspicious circumstances or was an unwitting participant in a broader scheme.

As EOCO continues its investigations, all eyes remain on the next steps: whether Shatta Wale will face charges, if the Lamborghini will be permanently confiscated, and how this saga will impact the artist’s career and public image.
