Last-minute payments and recruitments to be submitted to joint transition team
In a significant development following the second meeting of the Joint Transition Team, a new directive was issued requiring all ongoing significant payments, recruitment activities, and similar processes to be submitted for review on a case-by-case basis. This move is aimed at ensuring transparency and oversight during the critical transition period.
The decision was reached during a meeting held on Friday, December 13, 2024, and was communicated through a press statement signed by Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the spokesperson for the Mahama Transition Team. The statement, which was released to the public on the same day, emphasized the importance of submitting such activities to the Joint Transition Team to ensure proper coordination and avoid any potential discrepancies as the transition process progresses.
“The Joint Transition Team has agreed that all last-minute payments, recruitments, and other significant activities must be submitted to the team for approval, and each case will be considered individually,” the statement reads.
The directive comes as part of ongoing efforts to streamline and manage the transition effectively, ensuring that no irregularities arise during this period of change. The team aims to foster a transparent process that is both accountable and fair, particularly given the heightened scrutiny that comes with such critical transitions in governance and administration.
Felix Ofosu Kwakye’s statement reiterated the team’s commitment to facilitating a smooth handover while safeguarding public interest and ensuring that no last-minute decisions are made without the necessary oversight. The spokesperson also assured the public that the team would continue to work diligently to ensure that the transition process remains free from any malpractices.
“This decision underscores the need for all activities, particularly those involving significant financial outlays or recruitment processes, to be carefully reviewed in light of the upcoming administrative shifts. By doing so, we aim to maintain transparency, efficiency, and fairness,” Kwakye noted.
As the transition period continues, the Joint Transition Team is expected to meet more frequently to discuss various aspects of the handover process, with a focus on ensuring that all actions taken are in the best interest of the nation and aligned with the new administration’s priorities.
The announcement has been welcomed by many as a necessary step to enhance accountability and minimize any disruptions that might occur during the transition. Public reactions have largely been positive, with many applauding the team’s proactive approach in ensuring that important decisions are made with proper scrutiny.
The Joint Transition Team’s next meeting is expected to review ongoing activities and begin formal assessments of the submitted payments, recruitments, and other activities.
