Let’s adopt new & credible approaches to durable peacebuilding -Prof. Mensa-Bonsu

Supreme Court Judge Her Ladyship, Justice Prof. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu has urged African leaders to adopt credible and new approaches to peacebuilding. According to her, sustainable development is a catalyst for durable peacebuilding. She was speaking at MIASA’s conference on “Sustainable Regional Peacebuilding in Africa: Practices and Disconnects” in Accra.

The conference brought together practitioners with different experiences and perspectives on peacebuilding. The main agenda are lessons to collectively draw from Ghana’s experience, strong contribution to regional and continental peacebuilding. Supreme Court Judge Her Ladyship, Justice Prof. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu said sustainable development is a catalyst for durable peace.

Key on the agenda was to reflect on Ghana’s national peace infrastructure, peacebuilding within the country, lessons from regional and international actors. In recent times, Africa has recorded military coups in Mali, Guinea, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Niger, attempted coups in Guinea Bissau and attacks on Sierra Leone’s Military Barracks.

Director of Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) Prof. Emmanuel Debrah said collective efforts must be made to sustain peace in Africa in the face of political turmoil.

Ghana will be heading towards general elections in 2024 prompting the need for sustainable peace before, during and after elections.
