Let’s double efforts in VRA for national development -Obeng-Kenzo
The Acting Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, has called on VRA staff to intensify their efforts, demonstrating renewed energy, commitment, and determination to enhance electricity production in support of national development.
Ing. Obeng-Kenzo issued this call during visits to various VRA facilities after assuming his role as Acting Chief Executive.
In the early weeks of his appointment, he engaged with both unionized and senior staff through open, candid conversations at VRA workstations in Tema, Aboadze in the Western Region, and Akosombo and Akuse in the Eastern Region.
These meetings, he explained, allowed him to connect with staff at different locations, listen to their feedback, and gather ideas and suggestions that would help shape a strategic vision aimed at improving VRA’s operations, boosting electricity generation, and enhancing overall performance.
Throughout his visits, the Acting Chief Executive emphasized the importance of adopting a private-sector work culture that promotes hard work and teamwork. He believes this approach will strengthen VRA’s position, diversify its operations, and increase green energy production to power the nation.
Ing. Obeng-Kenzo, who began his career with VRA as a management trainee nearly 25 years ago, urged staff to operate with safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork at the forefront. He also encouraged them to take ownership of VRA’s operations and processes.
While acknowledging VRA’s public ownership, he stressed the need to adopt a private-sector mindset to drive innovation, generate sufficient revenue, and expand the authority’s operations for the mutual benefit of both the state and its employees.
The Acting Chief Executive assured staff that their safety and welfare would remain a priority. He promised that employee benefits would be enhanced to improve well-being and morale, ultimately driving productivity.
VRA staff expressed their enthusiasm for his appointment, seeing it as a sign of continuity and the promotion of a leader from within the organization to lead VRA into the future. They pledged their support in achieving the shared goal of driving economic growth and excellence in a safe working environment.
Since his appointment, Ing. Obeng-Kenzo has received congratulatory messages from various groups, both within and outside VRA. These include the Public Sector Workers Union of TUC, the Society of Volta River Authority Engineers (SOVRAE), the College of Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the Project Management Institute, and the Chartered Institute of Supply Chain Management, among others.
