Let’s find mechanism to live without breaching Covid-19 protocols- Prof. Abotsi tackles Akufo-Addo

Dean of UPSA Law School Prof. Ernest Kofi Abotsi has urged government’s officials including President Akufo-Addo to ensure their actions reflect strict adherence to Covid-19 safety and social distancing orders issued by the president.

It follows the total breaching of Covid-19 safety protocols in the full glare of President Akufo-Addo, his Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief Justice His Lordship Anin Yeboah at late Sir John’s funeral and other flagrant disregard for the same protocols during his recent tour of the Northern Region amid large number of students.

Speaking on an Accra-based Joy FM on Saturday 26 June 2021, the distinguished Harvard trained Constitutional Law Expert said “Let’s fashion out mechanism that allows us to live around Covid-19 without breaching safety protocols. The president, political leadership should live by example”

Ghana Police Service has rushed to court seeking orders to stop
FixTheCountryCampaigners from demonstrating on the grounds of Covid-19 protocols which was later quashed by the Supreme Court.

In a sharp rebuttal to the issue, Researcher at University of Cambridge and Convenor of FixTheCountryCampaigners Oliver Barker Vormawor says “It’s unfair treatment to attempt to prevent us from protest whilst others breach the Covid-19 with no arrest by same police. But, we have always maintained that we’ll demonstrate in line with the constitution. We’re law abiding people”.

Contributing to the debate, Economic and Political Risk Analyst
Dr. Theo Acheampong says “Political leaders’ rhetoric, talks on Covid-19 safety protocols do not reflect their actions in reality. They talk law but their behaviors do not reflect that”.
