LGBTQ+ Bill :It doesn’t stifle human rights- UPSA Law Lecturer

A Law Lecturer at UPSA Law School Justice Abdulai has rubbished claims that Ghana’s LGBTQI+ Bill would stifle and worsen human rights records in the country.

Speaking in an interview monitored by African Editors on Monday 26 July 2021, the Private Legal Practitioner Abdulai noted ” And so my point is that once we have an existing  law criminalizing any form of sexual  expression, a new law which seeks to clip the wings of anything that appears to support and promote illegal conduct that already existing conduct just go for it”.

Meanwhile, the bill has received mixed reactions on all sphere of Society with religious leaders calling for severe punishment for culprits.

But, Former Executive Director of Amnesty International Ghana Robert Amoafo Akoto is of the view that “the whole LGBTQ+ bill is unnecessary. Let’s focus on what’s necessary. My input is that the bill should totally be thrown out”. He noted.
