LGBTQ+ Bill: NPP MPs will push for open voting- K.T. Hammond
Adansi Asokwa NPP Member of Parliament K.T. Hammond says Majority Caucus of the house are in favour of the anti- LGBTQ+ bill notwithstanding the fact that many have not been heard straightforwardly defending it in the media.
The Ex-Deputy Minister of Energy in the Kufuor government made this revelation on Monday, 11 October 2021 when he broke silence on the anti-gay debate.
His comment comes days after Deputy General Secretary of KT Hammond’s party (NPP) Obiri Boahene said that he is “surprised that NPP MPs can’t gather boldness to defend the homosexuality.
K.T. Hammond said there has never been a bill totally endorsed by all of the MPs like the anti-LGBTQI+ one, he noted.
He said the anti-LGBTQI+ bill has the full support of the majority.
In his view, it is solely by chance that a couple of people on the minority side led by Sam George, the National Democratic Congress’ MP for Ningo-Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, taken advantage of the situation of certain young people at Kwabenya opening an office to propel the activities of LGBTQI+, to push for a private member’s bill on it.
K.T Hammond advised that LGBTQI+ will not at any point be approved in the country by this eighth parliament.
Any MP, Mr Hammond advised, who dare vote against the passage of the anti-LGBTQI+ bill, will incur anger of Ghanaians comes 2024 elections.
KT Hammond said also as President Akufo-Addo, previously, offered the most grounded hint that same sex marriage will not at any point be sanctioned under his administration, so will LGBTQI+ practices not be approved under the watch of the current parliament.
He said the “majority caucus will push for open balloting on the bill”.
No ‘secret ballots’ will be allowed in taking decision on the bill.
