Mahama appoints members of 2024 transition team
Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has announced the members of his 2024 Transition Team, responsible for ensuring the smooth handover of power from the outgoing administration.
The announcement, made on December 10, 2024, aligns with the provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
A statement released by Sammy Gyamfi Esq. revealed that the team is made up of experienced professionals from various fields, including finance, governance, and public administration, underscoring the importance of competence and efficiency during the transition process.
The appointed members of the Transition Team are:
1. Hon. Julius Debrah – Co-Chairperson
2. Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia – Member
3. Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey – Member
4. Dr. Callistus Mahama – Member/Secretary to the Transition Team
5. Dr. Valerie Sawyer – Member
6. Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi – Member
7. Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson – Member
8. Hon. Mahama Ayariga – Member
9. Hon. Goosie Tanoh – Member
10. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Member
Additionally, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho has been appointed as a member of the Transitional Advisory Council.
The statement highlighted the team’s key responsibility: to collaborate with the outgoing government to facilitate a seamless transfer of power, ensuring continuity and stability for the incoming administration.
These appointments represent a significant milestone in Ghana’s democratic journey, laying a strong foundation for the new government to begin its term effectively.
Akosua Frema Osei-Opare chairs govt transition team
President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed key individuals to form the Government side of the Transition Team, in accordance with Section 1(1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
The appointed members of the Transition Team include:
Chief of Staff (Head of the Presidential Staff under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463)): Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare
Attorney-General: Godfred Yeboah Dame
Minister for Presidential Affairs: Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
Minister for Finance: Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam
Minister for the Interior: Hon. Henry Quartey
Minister for Defence: Hon. Dominic Nitiwul
Minister for Foreign Affairs: Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
Minister for Local Government: Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah
Minister for National Security: Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah
In line with Section 1(2) of the Act, additional members of the Team include:
Head of Civil Service: Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh
Head of the Local Government Service: Dr. Nana Ato Arthur
Secretary to the Cabinet: Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari
National Security Coordinator: Mr. Edward Asomani
The Team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, following a meeting between the President and the President-elect, who will co-chair the Team. In the President’s absence, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare will act as Co-Chair.
In addition, former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has been appointed to the Advisory Council, with the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Alban Bagbin, serving as the Chairperson of the Advisory Council.
The Transition Team’s primary responsibility is to ensure a smooth and efficient transfer of executive power, in line with the provisions of the Transition Act, to safeguard governance stability and continuity.
President Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to a seamless transition that will further strengthen the nation’s democratic framework.
