Mahama appoints Sammy Gyamfi as Acting MD of PMMC

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Sammy Gyamfi Esq. as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), a state-owned entity.

The appointment was officially announced in a press statement from the Presidency on Thursday, January 17.

In his new position, Mr. Gyamfi will be responsible for leading the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board, a key initiative outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto.

The Gold Board is expected to play a central role in the government’s broader economic recovery efforts. Its creation will be overseen by the Minister for Finance, with the goal of ensuring the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources for the benefit of the Ghanaian people.

A major focus of the Gold Board will be formalising the small-scale gold mining sector and providing vital support services to the industry.

Mr. Gyamfi is a qualified lawyer and economic policy analyst. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Laws degree, both from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
