Mahama makes key national security appointments

President John Dramani Mahama has announced key national security appointments aimed at strengthening the country’s security framework.

The appointments, made public on January 15, 2025, include experienced professionals with vast expertise in security and governance.

Former Chief of Staff, Prosper Douglas Bani, has been appointed National Security Advisor to the President. Bani, who previously served as Minister for the Interior, is expected to leverage his extensive experience in coordinating national security policies.

ACP Abdul-Osman Razak has been appointed National Security Coordinator. His role will be critical in ensuring that security strategies are unified and effectively executed across all sectors.

COP (rtd) Nathan Kofi Boakye has been named Director of Operations at the Presidency. Known for his operational expertise, Boakye will work to enhance the effectiveness of security operations from the President’s Office.

Charles Kipo has been appointed Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). Kipo will oversee intelligence gathering and analysis, which will be vital in shaping national security decisions.

These appointments underscore President Mahama’s commitment to strengthening national security and safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaians. The new appointees are expected to improve the coordination and operational efficiency of the country’s security apparatus.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, made the announcement, emphasizing that the government is committed to adopting a proactive approach to address security challenges.

The appointments come as the government focuses on restoring stability and tackling ongoing security concerns, including recent conflicts in the Northern and North East regions. The new appointees are anticipated to play a key role in addressing these issues and ensuring a safer Ghana.
