President John Mahama has announced that he will submit the final batch of his ministerial appointments this week. The list will include four deputyministers, which will bring the total number of ministers to 60, in line with his promise to maintain a lean government.
Total number of ministers
With the inclusion of the four deputy ministers, President Mahama will have appointed a total of 60 ministers, complementing the 56 ministers already in place.
Gratitude for parliamentary support
During the swearing-in ceremony of another set of ministers and deputy ministers at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, President Mahama expressed his appreciation to the legislature for smoothly approving all his nominees thus far. He highlighted the achievement of the earliest approval of ministers by Parliament in the Fourth Republic, which allows the government to start implementing its commitments for the country.
Commitment to a lean government
Before assuming the presidency, Mahama pledged to create a lean government aimed at drastically reducing government expenditure. His goal is to redirect funds towards the development of the country and ensure that the benefits reach the masses. He promised to appoint no more than 60 state ministers, contrasting his approach with the previous NPP government, which appointed over 100 state ministers.
Final appointments pending
As of now, President Mahama has appointed 56 ministers, with the final four expected to be named this week.
