Media Coalition Against Galamsey to begin red band protest Thursday

The Media Coalition Against Galamsey has announced a “Red Band” protest in support of Organised Labour’s indefinite strike, set to begin on October 10, 2024.

Kenneth Ashigbey, Convener of the Coalition, shared details during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle on October 9. He emphasized that the protest seeks to amplify demands for the government to tackle the galamsey issue, particularly following its failure to ban illegal mining.

Participants are encouraged to wear red bands on their arms or heads and to tie red bands to cars, motorbikes, bicycles, and other vehicles. They are also invited to share photos and videos of their involvement on social media, using the hashtags #StopGalamseynow, #SaveOurLand, and #SaveOurFuture.

In a public notice, the Coalition urged Ghanaians to maintain the protest indefinitely until the government takes meaningful action against illegal mining and its associated environmental harm.
