MSU Architecture Students to help design new AUCC Campus at Pomadze

Management of African University College of Communications (AUCC) has engaged a team of architecture students from Morgan State University as part of efforts to establish a presence at AUCC’s Pomadze campus, near Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana.

Morgan State University (MSU) is a historically black college in Balitmore, Maryland, United States. Founded in 1867 by the Baltimore Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church as a private institution, it became a public institution in 1939 and a doctoral-granting university in 1975.

Led by Prof Coleman A. Jordan, the MSU team is to assist with the architectural design of the proposed campus, which is also home of the Pan African Heritage World Museum Complex currently under construction.

In 2019, the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the primary aim of establishing a mutually beneficial education and research relationship in all fields. MSU is a preeminent public urban research university engages in the pursuit of discovery, innovation and solutions that improve and impact lives. AUCC is carving a niche for itself as the foremost institution in Africa bridging the gap between today’s academy and tomorrow’s industry. The cooperation between the two will be undertaken from the perspective of promoting academic and cultural ties.

AUCC will therefore soon roll out new degree programs in collaboration with MSU. This follows a visit last Saturday June 21 to the school’s Adabraka campus by MSU partners led by Prof. Yacob Astatke and Dr. Hakeem Ibikunle Tijani, the Executive Director, Global Partnerships-Africa.

The collaboration presents opportunity for eligible students of AUCC to pursue three degree programs — a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Science in Global Multimedia Journalism and Communications, and a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship from Morgan State University. Under the partnership, students from MSU will also be able to pursue degree programs at AUCC.

AUCC president Prof. Abeku Blankson says that the partnership will include exchange of students for traditional exchange programs, exchange of faculty members for teaching and research, organization of joint seminars, conferences, and workshops and participation in joint distance learning activities among others.

AUCC continues to establish global partnerships with other institutions of higher learning as part of the new Management’s international strategies in the areas of research, teaching and student exchange.
